I'm Miranda. I've had this livejournal since I was 13. Now I'm 24, and I still update occasionally! Can't believe it's been 10 years... I graduated from Boston University in May of 2012 with a B.A. in English. (Yes, you can sing the Avenue Q song now...) I graduated from The George Washington University in May of 2014 with an M.A. in Higher Education Administration. I studied abroad in London, England in the fall of 2010 and it was one of the best experiences of my life! If you want to read about it, visit my abroad blog: http://mirandainlondon.blogspot.com

"True artists scorn nothing." - Camus

"Art was made to disturb." - Georges Braque
"The true artist will let his wife starve, his children go barefoot, his mother drudge for his living at seventy, sooner than work at anything but their art." - George Bernard Shaw
"When power corrupts, poetry cleanses." - JFK ******************************* "Love is stupid And it bleeds It satisfies my needs I think it's wonderful" - "The Music Still Plays On", A New Brain
CXXX My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun; Coral is far more red than her lips' red; If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun; If hair be wires, black wires grow on her head. I have seen roses damask'd, red and white, But no such roses see I in her cheeks; And in some perfumes is there more delight Than in the breath which from my mistress reeks. I love to hear her speak, yet well I know That music hath a far more pleasing sound; I grant I never saw a goddess go; My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground: And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare As any she belied with false compare. - William Shakespeare
"...and there you are Right in the middle of you what you love With the craziest of company You're having a kickass time And being who you wanted to be in this world You're that little girl With her wings unfurled Flying again" - "A Way Back to Then", [title of show]

"Literature is my Utopia. Here I am not disenfranchised. No barrier of the senses shuts me out from the sweet, gracious discourses of my book friends. They talk to me without embarrassment or awkwardness." - Helen Keller
"I always tell the girls never take it seriously. If you never take it seriously then you never get hurt. If you never get hurt then you always have fun. And if you ever get lonely, you can always go down to the record store and visit your friends." - Almost Famous

"Find life experiences and swallow them whole. Travel. Meet many people. Go down some dead ends and explore dark alleys. Try everything. Exhaust yourself in the glorious pursuit of life." - Lawrence K. Fish
"When I was five years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down 'happy'. They told me I didn't understand the assignment, and I told them they didn't understand life." - John Lennon

"There is something within every one of you that waits, listens for the genuine in yourself- and if you cannot hear it, you will never find whatever it is for which you are searching and if you hear it and then do not follow it, it was better that you had never been born. You are the only you that has ever lived; your idiom is the only idiom of its kind in all the existences, and if you cannot hear the sound of the genuine in you, you will all of your life spend your days on the ends of strings that somebody pulls." - Howard Thurman

"dearly beloved, we have gathered here today to get through this thing called life. electric word, life. it means forever and that’s a mighty long time. but I’m here to tell you there’s something else…
so when you call up that shrink in beverly hills (you know the one, “Dr. Everything’ll Be Alright”) instead of asking him how much of your time is left… ask him how much of your mind, baby.
and if the elevator tries to bring you down…
PUNCH A HIGHER FLOOR." - "Let's Go Crazy", Prince
“I don’t know if I will have the time to write any more letters because I might be too busy trying to participate. So if this does end up being the last letter, I just want you to know that I was in a bad place before I started high school, and you helped me. Even if you didn’t know what I was talking about, or know someone who’s gone through it, you made me not feel alone.
Because I know there are people who say all these things don’t happen, and there are people who forget what it’s like to be sixteen when they turn seventeen. I know these will all be stories someday and our pictures will become old photographs, and we’ll all become somebody’s mom and dad, but right now, these moments are not stories. This is happening. I am here, and I am looking at her, and she is so beautiful.
I can see it—this one moment when you know you’re not a sad story. You are alive, and you stand up and see the lights and the buildings and everything that makes you wonder, and you’re listening to that song and that drive with the people you love most in this world. And in this moment, I swear, we are infinite.” - "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky
"The majority of us needed a college education because college is where we come to learn about ourselves and about life, to make lifelong friends, to tap into networks we didn't know existed. It is where we learned to think critically, to disagree constructively, to debate and to even disobey for our cause.
This is the place where we can learn through the eyes and experience of others who have so much to teach us about the world.
It is where we can dream unbelievable dreams, grow our wings and fly to the heavens.
For those of us where home is not the place to dream or believe anything is possible, college is where our dreams take form and where we begin to learn how to make them come true.
College is hardly a place for 'suckers.' It is where people come to get the most life has to offer and we need to make it available to as many as possible for the betterment of all." - Linda Katehi, Chancellor, UC Davis
"Do not feel lonely, the entire universe is inside you." - Rumi

"Everybody says don't Everybody says can't Everybody says wait around for miracles- That's the way the world is made I insist on miracles, if you do them Miracles, nothing to them I say don't- Don't be afraid" - "Everybody Says Don't", Anyone Can Whistle
PUT SOMETHING IN Draw a crazy picture, Write a nutty poem, Sing a mumble-gumble song, Whistle through your comb. Do a loony-goony dance 'Cross the kitchen floor, Put something silly in the world That ain't been there before. - Shel Silverstein
"Keep the rebel artist alive in you no matter how difficult the temptation." - Norman Mailer
"I figure, if a girl wants to be a legend, she should go ahead and become one." - Calamity Jane
"We press play, don't press pause Progress, march on With the veil over our eyes We turn our back on the cause Till the day that my uncles can be united by law When kids are walking 'round the hallway plagued by pain in their heart A world so hateful some would rather die than be who they are And a certificate on paper isn't gonna solve it all But it's a damn good place to start No law is gonna change us We have to change us Whatever God you believe in We come from the same one Strip away the fear Underneath it's all the same love About time that we raised up" - "Same Love", Macklemore
THE LAUGHING HEART Your life is your life Don't let it be clubbed into dank submission. Be on the watch. There are ways out. There is a light somewhere. It may not be much light but it beats the darkness. Be on the watch. The gods will offer you chances. Know them. Take them. You can't beat death but you can beat death in life, sometimes. And the more often you learn to do it, the more light there will be. Your life is your life. Know it while you have it. You are marvelous. The gods wait to delight in you. - Charles Bukowski
"It's sweet to be important. But it's important to be sweet."
Having a Coke with You is even more fun than going to San Sebastian, Irún, Hendaye, Biarritz, Bayonne or being sick to my stomach on the Travesera de Gracia in Barcelona partly because in your orange shirt you look like a better happier St. Sebastian partly because of my love for you, partly because of your love for yoghurt partly because of the fluorescent orange tulips around the birches partly because of the secrecy our smiles take on before people and statuary it is hard to believe when I’m with you that there can be anything as still as solemn as unpleasantly definitive as statuary when right in front of it in the warm New York 4 o’clock light we are drifting back and forth between each other like a tree breathing through its spectacles
and the portrait show seems to have no faces in it at all, just paint you suddenly wonder why in the world anyone ever did them
I look at you and I would rather look at you than all the portraits in the world except possibly for the Polish Rider occasionally and anyway it’s in the Frick which thank heavens you haven’t gone to yet so we can go together the first time and the fact that you move so beautifully more or less takes care of Futurism just as at home I never think of the Nude Descending a Staircase or at a rehearsal a single drawing of Leonardo or Michelangelo that used to wow me and what good does all the research of the Impressionists do them when they never got the right person to stand near the tree when the sun sank or for that matter Marino Marini when he didn’t pick the rider as carefully as the horse
it seems they were all cheated of some marvelous experience which is not going to go wasted on me which is why I am telling you about it - Frank O'Hara
